Fix Loading
How do I fix the game not loading?
Most loading failures come from the browser's graphics setting, an old graphics driver, or a network blocking the game's files. Work through these checks in order, reloading after each one. Your save lives in your browser, so none of these touch it until the last step, which has its own safe route.
Have you tried turning it off and on again? We are required to ask.
- Reload the page once. A first load fetches a lot of files, and a single dropped one stops the office from opening.
- Turn on hardware acceleration. Search your browser's settings for it, switch it on and restart the browser.
- Update your graphics driver. Use your system's updater or the support page of whoever made your computer.
- Lower the quality. Open Options, then Graphics, and set Quality to Lowest. If you cannot reach the menu, add ?nobackdrop to the address.
- Try another network. If the error names a file it could not load, a company proxy may be blocking it. Try a network that is yours.
- Clear cached files only. Clear cached images and files, not site data. Your save is untouched by that. See the section below if you need to go further.
What is hardware acceleration, and why does it matter?
The game draws with WebGL2, a browser feature that uses your graphics chip. With hardware acceleration off, the browser either refuses or draws everything slowly in software. Open your browser's settings, search for hardware acceleration, switch it on, and restart the browser completely. A slow menu with no error is the usual sign.
Your laptop has a graphics chip. It has been waiting for someone to ask.
How do graphics drivers cause this?
A graphics driver is the software your computer uses to talk to its graphics chip, and browsers switch off graphics features on drivers they do not trust. Update through your system's own updater, or the support page of your computer's maker. On a work laptop that may be IT's job, not yours.
Raise a ticket. It has been closed. Resolution: user error.
How do I use low quality mode?
Open Options, then Graphics, and choose a Quality of Auto, High, Medium, Low or Lowest. Auto looks at your graphics chip and starts lower on weak ones. If the animated office behind the menu is what stalls, add ?nobackdrop to the game's address to skip it, reach the menu, and change the setting.
Lowest is still technically a game. It has been approved.
Example address: /?nobackdrop. Low-Key Mode is different: it changes the colours for open-plan seating, and does not make the game faster. Reduced flash is in the same tab.
Why does it fail on work laptops and behind proxies?
Company laptops are often managed: graphics acceleration can be switched off by policy, and a proxy can block the game's data files or the live connection co-op uses. An error naming a file it could not load points at the network. We have not yet tested on a real managed work laptop.
Your access request has been received. Thank you for your patience.
Please do not work around your employer's security settings for this. If it is blocked, it is blocked. Play it on a machine that is yours.
How do I clear storage without losing my save?
Your whole career is stored in this browser, not on a server, so clearing site data deletes it, and its hourly backups go too. Clear only cached images and files first, because that leaves saves alone. If you must clear everything, make an export code first and paste it back afterwards.
A code holding your whole career. Keep it somewhere IT will not look.
- Open Options, then Saves. If the menu will not load, try adding ?nobackdrop to the address first.
- Press Make Code, then Copy. That text holds your whole career.
- Paste it somewhere safe. A note on your own device is fine. It is not a password, but it is yours.
- Clear what you need to clear. Then reload the game.
- Paste the code under Import. Press Import. Your career is back. The same code moves a save to another browser or computer.
Private or incognito windows forget saves when closed, and a browser that refuses storage cannot keep one at all. The game makes up to five hourly backups in the same browser, under Options, Saves. They help if a save goes wrong, not if you wipe the browser.
What do the error messages mean?
Three messages cover most failures. One says the office could not open, which names what failed. One says your graphics chip reset, which a reload usually fixes. The third says co-op could not reach the server, which only affects co-op. The table gives the exact wording and the first thing to try.
Technical difficulties. Your manager has been told you are thrilled.
| What you see | What it means | Try first |
|---|---|---|
| The office could not open: … | Something failed while starting. The words after the colon say what. "Could not load" names a blocked or missing file. | Reload, then try another network. |
| Your graphics chip reset. Reload the page to carry on; your progress is saved. | The browser lost its graphics connection. | Reload, then lower the Quality. |
| Co-op isn't available here yet. | The public site does not run the co-op relay yet. Only co-op is affected. | Play on your own for now. |
